The Nilgiri tahr is an ungulate that is endemic to the Nilgiri Hills and the southern portion of the Western and Eastern Ghats in the states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala in southern India. It is the only species in the genus Nilgiritragus and is closely related to the sheep of the genus Ovis
We were on a trip to encounter this species in 2017, at Kerala and Tamil Nadu Bordering western Ghats hills. The moment we went and explored the spot we didn’t see even a single sign of a nilgiri Tahr. We waited for over 5 hours on the same location. Waiting for this mountain goat to show up. At least a single sighting. We lost hope eventually and we decided to leave after 5 hours. It was almost sunset as well. When we were about to get into our car, suddenly we heard a “Goating” sound far away. I rushed with my camera and saw this guy was hanging in the cliff approaching towards us gradually. Then I took these shots, one of my favorites in my collection
